The Buccaneers Volleyball team has finished the season an undefeated 31 – 0 after a forfeit win from Johnston CC on Friday night. Even though Johnston CC did not show the Buccaneers Volleyball team put on a rousing exhibition for the 100+ fans in attendance for Sophomore night. The Sophomores #4 Ashley Almond, #8 Jennifer Beatty, #9 Melinda , #11 Lacy Goodson, and #12 Kailey Russell along with Freshman Libero #15 Hannah Lewis defeated the freshman 3-0.

Below are Coach Hudson’s words on each of the players:

Ashley Almond – # 4
Ashley, or “Peanut” as she is affectionately known, joined us this past spring and has been a great asset to this team. What I appreciate most about Ashley is her flexibility and willingness to embrace a totally different role on the court than what she was familiar with. She was willing to learn the new position of “defensive specialist”, and has done an outstanding job for us this season. Ashley has logged 163 digs for the season and has also served as a back-up setter, posting 37 assists for the year and 23 service aces. Ashley plans to transfer after this spring and will study Athletic Training. We love you “Peanut” and will miss you next year!

Jennifer Beatty – # 8 Team Captain

Jenn joined us this fall as a transfer from Valdosta State and has made headlines all year with her powerful and dominating swing. What we didn’t know, and what Jenn didn’t know herself was that she could play defense too! – And we have the stats to prove it! I am so proud of Jenn and the leadership she has provided for the team this season. Get ready for some amazing stats! Jenn Beatty is 13th in the NJCAA National Rankings in kills per set with 352, which puts her 28th in total kills. She ranks 35th in the Nation in Aces per set with 51 and an amazing 25th in the nation in total points earned at 427. Jenn is an outstanding 17th in the nation in points per set AND our offensive powerhouse can play defense too! She has 347 total digs for the season. Congratulations on an amazing season Jenn!
Jenn plans to continue her volleyball career and transfer next fall to study business. Love ya Jenn and am so glad I had the opportunity to be your coach!

Melinda Morgan – # 9
I have loved Melinda since the first day I met her and I have enjoyed being her coach this season! Melinda is one of the most gracious and unselfish people I have ever met and she plays the game with such enthusiasm and determination. Melinda has been a quiet leader on the team this year and has provided invaluable wisdom and strength on and off the court. Melinda boasts a .212 hitting percentage on the season and has provided a strong block for the team. Melinda plans to transfer and pursue a degree in nursing. Love ya Melinda and am so proud of you!

Lacy Goodson – # 11 Team Captain
Lacy has had an incredible two seasons with the Lady Bucs and has been such a leader on the court. She controls our offense and provides stability to our team. It has been incredible to coach such an athletic and determined setter. Lacy has “rocked” our conference this year with her nasty dump and aggressive serve…not to mention her 9.17 assists per set which ranks her 17th in NJCAA National standings! Among her other crazy stats for this season are her 880 total assists for the season, ranking her 21st in the nation. Lacy also is ranked 17th in the nation in service aces with 60 total aces for the season and 19th in the nation in service aces per set with .62 per set. This next stat is unbelievable because remember…Lacy is a “setter” – Lacy has a .270 hitting percentage with 103 kills for the season! I love you Lacy and am so proud of you and the young lady you have become!

Kailey Russell – # 12 Team Captain
If you saw Kailey Russell play last year, you know she was amazing! But she has taken amazing to a whole different level this season! Kailey is a standout middle who leads her team with encouragement and hilarious antics. There is never a dull moment with Kailey around! On the court Kailey has dominated the net with 52 block assists for the season. She has an incredible hitting percentage of .323 with 198 total kills for the season which ranks her 32nd in the nation in hitting percentage with 443 total attacks for the year. Way to go Kailey! Kailey plans to continue her volleyball career next fall as she transfers to study education. I am going to miss you Kailey and am excited to see how God is going to use you. Love ya!
