CVCC Buccaneers volleyball student-athlete Jennifer Beatty was named Second Team All-American by the NJCAA. Beatty is a sophomore outside hitter from Daytona Beach, FL. She had a successful year with the Conference, Region X, and District P champion Buccaneers. She finished the year 12th in the nation with 3.78 kills per set and 15th with 4.6 points per set. Beatty also set the school season record with 401 kills and kills per set.
Beatty is the second Buccaneer student-athlete to be named an NJCAA All-American with Danny Fraga being named to the team this last season. The Buccaneers volleyball team finished with an 11th place finish at the NJCAA Nationals.
The Buccaneers Men’s Basketball team lost a hard fought battle to Division I opponent #8 Spartanburg Methodist Pioneers. The Bucs were lead by Freshman Josh McClain with 12 points and Sophomore Anthony Hillard and Preston Earle added 10 points. Earle and Freshman Shi Cee Moore added 6 rebounds to the effort while Moore also recorded 4 steals.
The Bucs were down 33-41 at half but battle back in the second half, but came up just short to the #8 Pioneers. The Bucs will be back home at the Tarlton Complex for their next game against Wytheville CC on Saturday, Dec 1, at 2:00pm.
The Buccaneers Women’s Basketball team remained unbeaten in women’s basketball on Tuesday, beating the visiting Thomasville Prep Phoenix 70-49. The Bucs were lead by Sophomore Anika Jones who had a team high 23 points and added six rebounds, two assists and seven steals for the Bucs. Twenty of Jones’ points were scored in the first half to give the Bucs a 50-20 lead at the half.
Freshman Jillyan Murray and Sophomore Stephanie Cabral each added 10 points for CVCC, with Murray making 8-of-9 free throws, and Freshman Kadesha Gibbs had six rebounds.
The Bucs are now 7-0 on the season and will play another home game this Friday night at 7:00pm against Div I opponent Spartanburg Methodist College.
The Buccaneers men’s basketball team defeated visiting Belmont Abbey Crusaders JV team 87-57. The Bucs had 5 players score in double digits, leading the charge was Freshman Rashawn Edwards with 15 points followed up by Sophomore Jalen Cannady and Freshman Josh McClain with 14, Sophomore Anthony Hillard with 13, and Sophomore Victor Moore. Shi Cee Moore and Cameron Redd lead the team with 7 rebounds.
The Bucs were lead to the victory by a strong first half. In the final ten minutes of the first half the Bucs went on an offensive run outscoring the Crusaders 22-7. In the second half the Bucs kept their large lead only allowing the Crusaders within 25 before winning the game 87-57.
The Bucs are now 6-1 and 1-0 in the conference. The Bucs will travel on the road Wednesday to play Div I opponent #9 ranked Spartanburg Methodist College. They will be back at home on Saturday for a 2:00pm game against Wytheville Community College.
CVCC Men’s Basketball Team defeated cross town rival Caldwell Community College Tuesday night 78-70 in Hudson, NC. Preston Earle led the Bucs with a game high of 31 points while hitting 10 for 10 from the free throw line. Isaiah Cuthbertson also played key in the win with 20 points and 10 rebounds. K.J. Jones led Caldwell Community College with 26 points.
