On Friday night, the CVCC Men’s basketball team defeated Wytheville Community College 83-52 in a non conference game in Wytheville VA. 5 Buccaneers were in double figures with Jalen Cannady’s game high of 17. Isaiah Cuthbertson followed with 16 points of his own.Off the bench freshman Rashawn Edwards posted another double double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Jay Alton led Wytheville Community College with 10 points.
On Sunday, the CVCC Men’s basketball team defeated Limestone College JV team 85-60 in a non conference game in Gaffney, SC. Preston Earle had a team high with 20 points. Jalen Cannady added 14 points with Isaiah Cuthbertson with 14 points and 17 rebounds. Nick Evan led Limestone with a game high of 27.
Catawba Valley competed against number 7 seed Phoenix College of Phoenix, Arizona for the 4:30 match on Friday, November 16th, 2012. The Bucs came out sluggish in the first set and lost 15-25. Catawba Valley picked up the intensity in the second set and won 25-23 behind the offensive dominance of the Lacy Goodson/Jennifer Beatty duo, which put up 6 kills for the set. In set three, the Bucs lost momentum and dropped the set 15-25. Catawba Valley fought hard in the fourth set, but it wasn’t enough and CVCC fell to the Bears 19-25.
Kills were shared across the offense with Jenn Beatty posting 12 kills, Leah Wells 7, Ceci Brandon 5, and Megan Gouge 4. Leah Wells, Jenn Beatty and Lacy Goodson each had 1 ace. Megan Gouge posted 1 block solo and 1 block assist, and Ceci Brandon had 2 block assists. Leading the defensive game was Leah Wells with 19 digs, Libero Hannah Lewis had 13 digs, followed by Jenn Beatty with 12 and Lacy Goodson with 6. Lacy Goodson posted 26 assists for the match.
Catawba Valley finished 11th in the NJCAA DII National Women’s Volleyball Tournament, with a final record of 35-2.

The Catawba Valley Community College Lady Buccaneers traveled to Toledo, Ohio to compete in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II National Volleyball Tournament on November 15-17. Catawba Valley faced number 6 seed Moraine Valley Community College for the 10:00 match on Friday morning. The Bucs started the game with intensity and never let up, winning the first set, a close 27-25. The Cyclones of Moraine Valley began set two with an 8 point lead, but the Bucs fought hard and battled back, point by point, to a 31-29 victory. The close loss in the second set, proved to be too much for the Cyclones of Moraine, and they dropped the third set 25-11, giving the Bucs the 3-0 sweep for the match.
The Bucs offense was led by Jenn Beatty with 18 kills. Leah Wells contributed 9 kills, and Ceci Brandon had 5 kills with a .625 hitting percentage for the match. Lacy Goodson and Savannah Dellinger each had 2 aces for the match and Jenn Beatty added 1. Megan Gouge led the blocking game with 5 block assists, Kailey Russell contributed 4 block assists, Ceci Brandon had 2 block assists and Jenn Beatty added a block solo. Lacy Goodson had 31 assists for the match and Leah Wells added 3. Hannah Lewis took over the defense with 29 digs. Leah Wells followed up with 13 digs, Lacy Goodson had 10, and Jenn Beatty added 8.
Catawba Valley will compete against Phoenix College in the 4:30 match on Friday afternoon.
