The CVCC Buccaneers Women’s Basketball team has moved up 2 spots to sit at the #18 spot in the NJCAA DII rankings. The Bucs have won three games since the last rankings and improved their record to 13-0. The Women have one more game this Friday, versus Thomasville Prep, in hopes to have a perfect first half of the season.

The Bucs are lead by Freshman Anika Jones who ranks 2nd in the nation with total points at 239 and is 18th with 18.4 points per game. Jones is also 3rd in the nation in shooting percentage at 62.5%. Jones’s defense has been a key for the Bucs as she is 3rd in the nation with 48 steals, while Sophomore teammate Matrice Sweezy sits at 8th in the nation with 45 steals, Sweezy is also ranked 5th in the nation with 65 assists on the year. As a team the Bucs are 11th in the nation with steals per game at 16.8. The team is also third in the nation shooting 48.6% from the field.

The Buccaneers play in Region X of the NJCAA, which touts a strong Women’s Basketball presence. The Region has three teams in the top 20 with Louisburg College and Patrick Henry CC sitting a 2 and 3 respectively, Guilford Tech is also receiving votes.

The Buccaneers will play their next home game on Thursday. January 10, 2013 against Rockingham CC at 5:00pm.
