The NJCAA Div II Women’s Basketball poll was released today with the CVCC Buccaneers climbing two more spots to sit at the #12 spot. The Bucs have accumulated a 22-0 overall record and an 8-0 conference record. With the 22-0 record the Bucs sit as the only undefeated team left in NJCAA Div II Women’s Basketball. The Bucs have seen two wins this season over Patrick Henry CC who is receiving votes, and will play their first of two games on Saturday, February 16 against #1 Louisburg College in the Tarlton Complex.
As a team the Bucs have put up amazing numbers as a team the Bucs have the 2nd highest field goal percentage in the nation with a 48.4%. The Bucs are 6th in the nation with FG made per game with 29.8 and are 10th with 3pt% at 34.9%, while they are 11th in the nation scoring, averaging 75.9 points per game. The Bucs defense also sits atop the nation with only allowing opponents to score an average of 37.9 points per game and 14th with 14.6 steals per game.
Freshman Anika Jones leads the Bucs charge sitting at 3rd in the nation with a 61.1 fg% and 8th in the nation with 20.1 points per game. Jones is also ranked 23rd in the nation with 67 steals on the season. Sophomore Matrice Sweezy is in the 5th spot with a 45% 3pt percentage and is 7th in the nation dishing out 121 assists. Sweezy’s defense has also been a big part to the undefeated season with her 79 steals which ranks 9th in the nation. Freshman Gabrielle MCClain is ranked 27th in the nation with 38 blocks on the season.
The Buccaneers will have to battle 6 of their last 7 games on the road. The lone home game comes on Saturday, February 16th at 3:00pm against #1 Louisburg College. The women will start the Region X tournament on March 8th.
