Madison Pogue of West Iredell High School in Statesville, NC, signed on January 28th to play volleyball this fall at Catawba Valley Community College. Present for the signing was West Iredell Head Coach Krystle Miller, Madison’s father Shawn Pogue, sister Kaitlynn Pogue, CVCC Head Coach Shannon Hudson and CVCC Assistant Coach Mark Wimberley along with family members, friends and teammates.

Madison helped lead the Lady Warriors, known as the “Littlest Team in the Conference” to the 3A Sweet 16 appearance. Madison was a team captain and was named to the All-Conference team an amazing 4 years in a row. In addition to receiving the “Warrior Award”, Madison was honored as WSIC Athlete of the Week and named to the All-Charlotte Observer Team. Madison’s high school stats are quite impressive and include 3 aces per set, 5 kills per set, 6.25 digs per set, over 5 blocks per set and a remarkable 10.2 assists per set! Madison also was elected to the All-County Soccer team and finished second in the county on the track team for Discus Throw, qualifying for regionals in the event.
While playing club ball with the “IC Stars” (Iredell County), Madison, under the direction of coaches Joel Sprinkle and Dave Markland has had phenomenal success. Her teams have won major East Coast tournaments such as the Monument City Classic, Shamrock Festival, three Carolina Region Championships, one MAPL Championship, a top 20 finish at the AAU National Championships in Orlando, Florida and a third place finish at the Big South National Qualifier in Atlanta Georgia. For her efforts and achievements as an IC Star player, Madison is a three time recipient of the All-Region Player Award.

CVCC Head Coach Shannon Hudson is excited to add Madison to the Lady Buccaneer’s line-up for the fall 2013 season. “Madison is a smart, athletic player whose court awareness and experience will be huge assets for us this fall. She is a phenomenal setter with the confidence and determination to run a quick and powerful offense and I am thrilled that she has decided to become a part of our Lady Buccaneer’s program.”
Madison is planning to pursue a career in Athletic Training and will obtain her General Education Degree from Catawba Valley before transferring. Madison is a member of the National Beta Club, National Society of High School Scholars and a 5 time North Carolina High School Scholar Athlete (and counting).

Coach Hudson comments, “I am looking forward to coaching Madison this fall. I anticipate a dominating rookie year for Madison and can’t wait to see her in action.”
