The Buccaneers baseball team has climbed up the polls two spots to sit at the #4 spot in the latest NJCAA DII Baseball Poll. The Bucs are 20-5 overall and 10-1 in conference action, they have been strong at home winning 12 of 13 games they have hosted so far this season.

The Bucs offense has been a catalyst for this season so far. The Bucs are ranked in the top 15 of 8 offensive categories. They are 4th in Runs (202) and Homeruns (13), and 6th in Runs Batted In (165). They are 11th in team batting average (.334) and 12th in team slugging percentage (.439). The pitching staff has also helped the Bucs holding the opponents’ batting average to .214 (7th in the nation).

Freshman Bryson Bowman has had the hot bat hitting .361 and he leads the team in Runs (26), Hits (30), Homeruns (3), and stolen bases. Freshman Ryan Smith leads the team in batting average hitting .409, and Sophomore Blake Myers has a team high 24 runs batted in.

The pitching staff is anchored by Sophomore Robert Whaley who leads the team with Innings pitched (49), Strikeouts (36), ERA (1.65), and Wins (6). Sophomore Jordan Lafone has posted a 1.93 ERA, 3 wins and leads the team with 6.94 strikeouts per nine innings pitched.

The Buccaneers will face their toughest opponent yet this weekend in a 3 game series with conference foe #15 ranked Brunswick Community College. On Friday the Bucs will play Brunswick starting at 2:00pm, and will finish the series with a double header on Saturday starting at 12:00pm.
