Four Baseball Student-Athletes Honored by Region X

NJCAA Region X announced their All-Team selections and four CVCC Bucs baseball players were named to the list. Freshman Ryan Smith and Bryson Bowman were selected as First-Team while Freshman Kurt Stabasefski and Sophomore Robert Whaley were named to the Second-Team. Bowman was also named to the Region X All-Defensive team.

 

Freshman Outfielder Bryson Bowman leads the Bucs in 4 offensive categories with 62 hits, 51 runs (ranks 14th in the nation), 5 homeruns and 12 stolen bases. Bowman has a .363 average and has logged 9 doubles and 32 rbi and 25 walks. Bowman has also served up 5 sacrifice flies which ranks him 14th in the nation. Bowman posted a .977 fielding percentage and logged 84 putouts.

Freshman Ryan Smith led the Bucs with a .415 batting average (26th best in the nation) and a .483 on base percentage while playing first base. He logged 51 hits with 7 doubles, 1 triple and a homerun. Smith scored 35 runs while knocking in 29 rbi. He was the toughest Buc to strikeout with only 7 strikeouts in 123 at bats. Smith also logged 4 steals on the season.

Freshman Kurt Stabasefski anchored the shortstop position for the Bucs. Stabasefski was second on the team with a .386 batting average. He posted 44 hits with a double and 28 runs scored. Stabesefski knocked in 17 rbi on the season and stole 4 bases. He had a .942 fielding percentage and helped the Bucs with 16 double plays.

Sophomore right handed pitcher Robert Whaley had a team high 7 wins (17th in the nation) on the season and led the team in innings pitched 77 (14th in the nation) and strikeouts with 56. Whaley has a 2.34 era and has pitched 4 complete games on the season (35th in the nation).

The #10 ranked Bucs start the Region X/Southeast District Tournament tomorrow as the #1 seed in the tournament. They will play the #8 seed Surry CC at 7:00pm.

Region X Baseball Tournament Starts Friday

The Buccaneers opens up the post season with a #10 NJCAA ranking and the #1 seed in the Region X/Southeast District Tournament. The Bucs completed the season with a 21-6 conference record which gave them their second straight Carolinas-Virginia Conference Championship.

The Bucs are led into the post season by a trio of Freshman who have put up solid numbers. Ryan Smith leads the team with a .415 avg and Kurt Stabasefski posts a .386 average. Outfielder Bryson Bowman leads the Bucs in 4 categories with 62 hits, 51 runs, 5 homeruns and 12 stolen baseses. Bowman has a .363 average and has logged 9 doubles and 32 rbi and 25 walks.

The Bucs pitching staff is anchored by Robert Whaley who had a team high 7 wins on the season and leads the team in innings pitched 77 and strikeouts with 56. Whaley has a 2.34 and has pitched 4 complete games on the season. Steven Blythe leads the team with a 1.23 era with 2 wins and a save on the season. Freshman Dustin Greene 34.2 innings pitched and has 23 strikeouts with a 2.08 era.
