Freshman Ryan Smith

For the second year in a row the Catawba Valley Baseball team sees a student-athlete named as an NJCAA All-American. Freshman First Baseman Ryan Smith was named 3rd team All-American. Ryan is one of only 8 freshman selected as an NJCAA All-American. Ryan led the Buccaneers with a .415 batting average (23rd in the nation) on the season and posted 51 hits with 15 walks. Ryan scored 35 runs and hit in 29 rbi. He was one of the toughest Bucs to strike out, striking out only 7 times in 123 at bats. Ryan also sat at 22nd in the nation with 8 sacrifice hits.
