Volleyball Sweeps 3 in Weekend Action

Catawba Valley Community College hosts Quad-match with Surry Community College, Louisburg College and Hagerstown Community College.

The Lady Bucs started off the day playing Surry Community College for a 10:00 match. The Bucs won the match in 3 sets 25-13, 25-19, 25-20. Leading the offensive game was Leah Wells and Tiffany Brooks with 12 kills each. Anna Henderson had 8 and Aimee Cloninger and Megan Gouge both had 4 kills for the match. Aimee Cloninger, Leah Wells, Hannah Lewis and Katie Ruff all aced 2 each for the Bucs. Hannah Lewis led the defensive game with 26 digs. Leah Wells had 8 digs and Aimee Cloninger had 7. Madison Pogue put up 30 assists for the match. Anna Henderson had an awesome blocking game leading the Bucs with 2.5 blocks followed by Megan Gouge with 1 block.

The Bucs won the match against Louisburg College in 3 sets 25-12, 25-16, 25-14. Leading the offensive game was Leah Wells with 9 kills. Tiffany Brooks had 8, Aimee Cloninger and Megan Gouge both had 7 kills and Anna Henderson posted 6 kills for the match. The serving game was strong for the Lady Bucs with Madison Pogue acing 4. Hannah Lewis and Leah Wells aced 3 each and Lyndsey Detter had 2 aces. Hannah Lewis led the defensive game with 19 digs. Leah Wells had 14 and Aimee Cloninger had 11 digs. Madison Pogue put up 33 assists for the match. Anna Henderson had 1.5 blocks followed by Megan Gouge with 1 block.

In the final match of the day, the Catawba Valley Lady Buccaneers hosted the Hagerstown Hawks of Maryland. The Bucs started off strong and won the first set 25-18 before dropping a close second set 20-25. In the third set and in the final set, the Bucs fought hard to win 25-16 and 25-21. Outside hitters Leah Wells and Aimee Cloninger led the offensive game for the Bucs with 16 and 15 kills respectively. Megan Gouge posted 10 kills for the match with Tiffany Brooks adding 6, Anna Henderson adding 5 and Madison Pogue posting 4 kills. Aimee Cloninger led the defense with 26 digs for the night followed by Hannah Lewis with 23. Leah Wells and Madison Pogue had 9 digs each and Katie Ruff dug up 4. Madison Pogue had 41 assists for the match as well as 1 block. Also adding a 1 block each was Anna Henderson, Megan Gouge and Tiffany Brooks. Serving was aggressive for Catawba Valley with Aimee Cloninger posting 3 aces for the match and Katie Ruff and Lyndsey Detter adding 1 ace each.

Catawba Valley is away on Tuesday, October 1st for a non-conference match with Johnson and Wales University at 6:00. The Bucs host a tri-match with Wake Tech and Guilford Tech on Thursday, October 3rd beginning at 2:00.

The Bucs overall record is 23-0 and their conference record is 9-0.

The CVCC Lady Bucs traveled to St. Andrews Presbyterian College for a 5:00 match verses the JV St. Andrews team on Thursday, September 26, 2013.

The Bucs won the match in 3 sets 25- 14, 25-12, 25-16. Leading the offensive game was Leah Wells with 12 kills. Madison Pogue had 11 and Aimee Cloninger and Anna Henderson both had 7 kills for the match. Aimee Cloninger and Leah Wells both aced 3 followed by Lyndsey Detter and Hannah Lewis with 2 aces a piece. Hannah Lewis led the defensive game with 19 digs. Leah Wells had 11 digs and Madison Pogue had 9. Madison Pogue put up 27assists for the match and Tiffany Brooks had 1 block for the match.

The Lady Bucs will return home on Saturday September 28, 2013 for a quad match versus Surry Community College, Louisburg College and Hagerstown Community College beginning at 10:00. Game times for the Bucs are 10:00, 2:00 and 6:00.

Lady Bucs Claim 50th Straight Regular Season Win

The Lady Bucs were home on Tuesday September 24, 2013 for an Operation Christmas Child special event when they hosted Toccoa Falls College at 6:00.

CVCC won in three straight sets with scores 25-16, 25-15 and 25-4. Leading the offensive game for the Bucs was Aimee Cloninger with 10 kills for the match. Megan Gouge posted 9 kills, Anna Henderson had 7 kills, and Madison Pogue and Tiffany Brooks added 5 and 4 respectively. Hannah Lewis led in digs with 15. Leah Wells added 11 digs, Aimee Cloninger had 8 and Madison Pogue had 6. In the assists category, Madison Pogue put up 29 assists for the match. The serving game was once again strong for the Bucs with 15 total aces for the night. Hannah Lewis led with 5 aces, Madison Pogue had 3, and Aimee Cloninger, Katie Ruff and Leah Wells had 2 each. The block was solid for the Bucs with Anna Henderson posting 2 block solos. Tiffany Brooks had 1.5 blocks and Leah Wells and Megan Gouge added 1 each.

Catawba Valley Volleyball is away on Thursday, September 26th when they travel to St. Andrews College for a 5:00 match. The Lady Bucs will return home on Saturday, September 28, 2013 for a quad-match with Surry Community College, Louisburg College and Hagerstown Community College beginning at 10:00. Game times for the Bucs are 10:00, 2:00 and 6:00.

The CVCC Lady Bucs traveled to Wake Tech Community College for a tri-match on Friday, September 20, 2013. In the first match of the day the Bucs played the Wake Tech Eagles at 3:00.

The Bucs won the match in 3 sets 26-24, 25-20, 25-19. Leading the offensive game was Leah Wells with 11 kills. Aimee Cloninger and Madison Pogue each had 8, and Megan Gouge posted 5 kills. Leah Wells aced 2 followed by Lyndsey Detter with 1 ace. Hannah Lewis and Leah Wells led the defensive game with 14 digs a piece. Aimee Cloninger had 11 digs. Madison Pogue put up 27 assist for the match. The blocking game was solid for Anna Henderson with 2.5 blocks.

In their second match of the day, Catawba Valley took on Louisburg College. The Bucs came out on top with scores of 25-19, 25-11 and 25-14. Aimee Cloninger and Megan Gouge led in the kill category with 9 kills each. Anna Henderson had 8 and Leah Wells posted 6 kills for the match. Leading the defensive game for the Lady Bucs was Hannah Lewis with 23 digs. Aimee Cloninger had 12, Leah Wells had 11 and Madison Pogue posted 10 digs. Madison Pogue put up 33 assists for the match. The serving game was on for the Lady Bucs with Aimee Cloninger, Madison Pogue and Hannah Lewis all acing 2 a piece. The blocking game was solid with Megan Gouge posting 1.5 blocks and Madison Pogue and Anna Henderson adding 1 block each.

Stephen Hinds added to Men’s Basketball Staff

Head Men’s Basketball Coach Bryan Garmroth is proud to announcing the hiring of Stephen Hinds to the CVCC Men’s BAsketball staff as an assistant coach. Last year Coach Hinds coached at Bandy’s High school during the 2012/13 school year. As a collegiate student-athlete Coach Hinds was a 4 year letterman and 3 year starter for Lenoir Rhyne College Men’s Basketball Team, where he helped guide the bears to three Conference Championships, as well as a trip to the Division II National Tournament. While in school, Coach Hinds worked with several top coaches around the country such as Gary Williams (U of MD), Skip Prosser (WF), and Mike Krzyzewski (Duke). Coach Hinds holds a Degree in Communications with a Minor in Business from Lenoir Rhyne University.
