The Catawba Valley Lady Bucs hosted a tri-match on Saturday, August 31, 2013 with Walter State Community College and Lenoir Community College. The Bucs played Walter State in the first match of the day and won in three straight sets, 27-25, 25-15, and 25-14. Catawba Valley started off slowly, but regained control half-way into the second set and never looked back, going on a 14-1 run to win the second set 25-15. Leading the match in the kill category was Aimee Cloninger with 10 kills. Anna Henderson posted 8 kills for the match, Megan Gouge added 5, and Leah Wells had 4. The serving game was on for the Bucs with Aimee Cloninger serving 6 aces for the match, followed by Madison Pogue with 5. Katie Ruff and Leah Wells each had 2 aces for the match. Anna Henderson dominated the net with 3 total blocks for the match. Aimee Cloninger had two blocks and Tiffany Brooks added a block solo and a block assist. Madison Pogue put up 26 assist. Libero Hannah Lewis led the defensive game with 21 digs for the match. Madison Pogue had 12 digs, Aimee Cloninger had 10 digs and Leah Wells posted 8 digs.

In the final game of the day, CVCC played the Lenoir Community College Lancers, their first conference competition of the season. CVCC controlled the match winning 25-14, 25-9, and 25-13. 6’3” Freshman Anna Henderson had a season high 11 kills for the set followed by Aimee Cloninger with 8, Leah Wells with 7, Tiffany Brooks with 6 and Madison Pogue with 4. The Bucs left the Lenoir Lancers stunned in the serving category. Aimee Cloninger had 8 aces, Madison Pogue posted 4 aces and Leah Wells added 2 aces. Madison Pogue contributed 23 assists for the match and Lyndsey Detter added 6. Hannah Lewis led digs with 19 for the match, Leah Wells added 8 digs, Aimee Cloninger had 6 digs, and Katie Ruff contributed 4 digs.

Catawba Valley will travel to Spartanburg Methodist College on Tuesday, September 3rd at 6:00 before returning home on Thursday, September 5th, to host Davidson County Community College at 6:00, when they will recognize Boger City Optomist’s 8U Darlings and 6U Sweeties State Championship Teams.
