Baseball is headed to baseball world series!

CVCC is the Region X regular season and tournament champions as well as the District champions. The CVCC baseball team defeated Bunswick CC 10-1 in the Region X Tournament championship game this afternoon. CVCC will now advance to the JUCO D-II college baseball world series in Oklahoma to compete for a national championship! CVCC was the only team to go through the entire tournament without a loss. Congratulations to Frank Pait and the rest of the team!

Youth basketball camp is for children ages 6-14. Boy’s and Girl’s are welcome to attend. The camp will take place in the air conditioned Tarlton Complex (former Multipurpose Complex) on the CVCC Campus.

The CVCC baseball team won the region this weekend as they defeated Stanly CC 2 games out of their 3 game series. CVCC will go into the Region X tournament this weekend with a #1 seed!!! Go Bucs!!!!

Congratulations!

We are proud to announce that SIX of our student athletes at Catawba Valley Community College will be going on to four-year universities to continue their education as well as their athletic careers. CVCC has seven other student athletes who have offers from four year universities, who have not officially made commitments as to where they are going to continue their careers. These student athletes represent what it means to be a Junior College student-athlete; they first excelled in the classroom and then excelled in their individual sport. These athletes saw CVCC as a stepping stone for future success, not an ending place in their athletic career. We would like to congratulate each one of these individuals for a job well done, and hope they inspire their teammates to keep the dream of playing at the next level alive.

#2 Danny Fraga

Baseball: #2 Danny Fraga

Danny is a 5’7” sophomore short stop for the Buccaneers from Columbus, NC. Danny has helped lead the Bucs to a national ranking of #11. He has played in 30 games for the Bucs; He has 43 hits, 13 stolen bases, and 15 RBI’s. He is currently ranked 44th in the nation in hitting (0.426), and is ranked 10th in the nation in on base percentage (57%). Danny looks to close out an impressive season by finishing strong down the stretch. Danny is not only a standout on the field; he also excels in the classroom and in the community. Danny is in the college transfer program here at CVCC, he maintains a well above average GPA, and plans to attend a four year university upon graduation from CVCC. Danny works with the rest of the CVCC baseball team in teaching baseball clinics to children in the community. Danny has received several baseball scholarship offers; we look forward to seeing where he lands in the future!

#12 Kally Russell

Volleyball: # 12 Kailey Russell

Kailey is a 6’0” freshman middle hitter for the Lady Bucs from Columbus, NC. Kailey has led the Lady Bucs this spring which only foreshadows the success she will have in the fall for her sophomore season. During the fall season she had a 24% hit efficacy rate, she recorded 15 aces, 25 blocks, and 128 kills. Coach Hudson said, "Kailey Russell has performed phenomenally this spring. Her dominating middle block and quick hands on the hit have made Kailey a powerhouse at the net. I look forward to having Kailey back this fall to lead our Lady Bucs to the National Tournament!" Kailey received the Most Valuable Player of the spring season this weekend. Kailey is not only a talented player on the court but she is an outstanding student in the classroom as well. Kailey is looking to continue her education here at CVCC next year, and then see where volleyball will take her!
