CVCC men’s, women’s hoops receive votes in latest poll

HICKORY, N.C. — For the first time in school history, the Catawba Valley Community College men's and women's basketball program both received votes in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DII polls, which were released on Tuesday.

Off to its best start to a season since 2012-13, the Red Hawks men's basketball team (6-1) made history by earning votes in the DII poll for the first time in program history.

The last time the CVCC men's basketball team received votes in any NJCAA poll was on Feb. 26, 2008 when it earned one vote in the Division III poll.

Starting off the preseason ranked 16th, the Catawba Valley women's basketball team dropped out of the top-20 in the DII poll, but still received votes. The Red Hawks women's basketball team went 4-1 during the month of November with its lone setback coming against conference foe Clinton.

The CVCC men's and women's basketball teams return to action on Wednesday with a pair of conference match ups. The Red Hawks men's basketball team hosts Davidson County at 7 p.m. at the Tarlton Complex, while the Catawba Valley women's basketball team travels to USC Salkehatchie for a 5 p.m. contest.
