Red Hawks to host Matt DiBenedetto Day on Saturday

HICKORY, N.C. — The Catawba Valley Community College Athletic Department welcomes a special guest to Saturday's Red Hawks women's basketball game against Cape Fear.

NASCAR driver and Hickory's own Matt DiBenedetto will be in attendance for the conference contest between the Red Hawks and Sea Devils. He will sign autographs for fans in attendance and also be honored during a special halftime ceremony.

DiBenedetto is entering his fifth full-time season in the NASCAR Monster Energy Cup series in 2019. The 27-year-old Foard High School graduate is coming off one of his best seasons yet, leading laps in eight races and finishing a career-best 29th in points.

The 2019 season will mark DiBenedetto's first season with his new team — Leavine Family Racing. He will drive the No. 95 Toyota Camry starting with Speedweeks at Daytona International Speedway in February.

Admission to Saturday's conference basketball game is free. Tip off is set for 1 p.m.
