Red Hawks alter athletic events ahead of COVID-19

HICKORY, N.C. — The Catawba Valley Community College athletic department has made changes to its sports schedule in the coming weeks in wake of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.


The Red Hawks scheduled conference softball doubleheaders at Surry Community College on Saturday and at Patrick Henry Community College on Sunday have been postponed.

CVCC softball doubleheaders on Sunday, March 22 at Fayetteville Tech and on Monday, March 23 at home against Paul D. Camp have also been postponed.

No make up dates have been scheduled yet for any of these doubleheaders.


The 17th-ranked Catawba Valley Community College baseball team's home game on Thursday afternoon against Union County College (N.J.) will still be played at its scheduled 6 p.m. start time at Henkel-Alley Field at the Hickory American Legion Fairgrounds.

The Red Hawks' three-game conference series this weekend at home against Bryant & Stratton College (Va.) has been cancelled.

CVCC's College Series game against Caldwell CC&TI at L.P. Frans Stadium on Wednesday, March 18 has been cancelled along with the Red Hawks' three-game conference road series at Southwest Virginia on March 21-22.


CVCC's Community Gym for women's volleyball set for March 15 have been cancelled.

Also, the Red Hawks women's basketball team's open try out and workout set for March 22 has been cancelled.
