Red Hawks’ Schroeder named NJCAA DII softball chair

HICKORY, N.C. — Catawba Valley Community College Athletic Director Nick Schroeder has been named to three committees as part of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), including the Division II softball chair.

Schroeder, who is entering his eighth year as the athletic director at Catawba Valley, is serving as the DII softball chair for a second-straight year.

"I am excited to be named the softball chair for a second year," Schroeder said. "I was disappointed that student-athletes were unable to compete for a championship this past spring, but we were proud to implement changes that will create a better championship environment."

During his first year as the DII softball chair, Schroeder was instrumental in adjusting the DII national championship by adding a day to the event and having championships played on a single field in the final three days of competition.

The NJCAA DII Softball Championship is scheduled to take place at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, Ala. in 2021 and 2022 and at Tiger River Park in Spartanburg, S.C. in 2023 and 2024.

On top of his pivotal softball role, Schroeder enters his first year on the NJCAA Eligibility Committee, which is only comprised of 12 members from junior colleges across the NJCAA.

The 2020-21 school year also marks the third that Schroeder will be a part of the seven-member NJCAA volleyball committee.

"I am always proud to serve the NJCAA in any capacity to create better opportunities for two-year student-athletes," Schroeder said.
