Red Hawks Baseball season awards highlighted by Andrus being named POY

The Red Hawks baseball team raked in the awards at tonight's pretournament coaches meeting.  To highlight the awards, was the naming of sophomore outfielder Ty Andrus as Region X Player of the Year, the first time in program history.  Andrus was also named to First-Team All-Region and the All-Region Defensive team.  Andrus was joined by third baseman Craig Zalewa, and outfielder Brandon Ford on the First Team All-Region.  Catcher Randal Ortiz, and pitcher Jacob Breakfield were named Second Team All-Region.  Outfielder Seth Hubbard was named to the All-Region Defensive team with Andrus.

Player of the Year sophomore outfielder Ty Andrus leads the Red Hawks with 81 hits (1st in region), a .438 batting average (2nd in region), .498 on base percentage (5th in region), 30 stolen bases (2nd in region), 56 runs (4th in region), 6 triples (3rd in region) and only struck out 5 times in 185 at bats (2nd in region).   Andrus cranked out the amazing offensive numbers while remaining perfect in the outfield logging a 1.000 fielding percentage on 90 total chances, logging 87 putouts and 3 assists earning him the All-Region Defensive team.

First team sophomore third baseman Craig Zalewa leads the Red Hawks with 22 doubles (1st in Region) while hitting .350 and a .629 slugging percentage.  Zalewa also knocked in 47 rbi and had 6 homeruns.  Sophomore outfielder, Brandon Ford was named First Team All-Region as designated hitter.  Ford was second on the team with a .394 batting average with 19 extra base hits including 4 homeruns and 4 triples.  Ford knocked in 35 rbi while scoring 43 runs.

Second team sophomore catcher, Randal Ortiz, leads the Red Hawks with 11 homeruns (1st in region) on the season, .659 slugging percentage (5th in region), 48 runs batted in (3rd in region) and 30 walks (6th in region).  Sophomore relief pitcher Jacob Breakfield was also named second team recording 7 saves (1st in region), while posting a 1.40 era and allowing only 4 earned runs in 25.2 innings pitched.

Sophomore outfielder Seth Hubbard was named to the All-Defensive team logging a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage with 31 total chances.  Hubbard had 29 putouts with 2 assists.

The Red Hawks will take the field tomorrow as the #4 seed in the Region X/Southeast District Tournament and will play #5 Wake Tech at 4:00pm.  The tournament is held at the Burlington Athletic Stadium, home of the Kansas City Royals rookie affiliate, the Burlington Royals.
