Red Hawks softball signs Cavs’ Brittany Westbrooks

HICKORY, N.C. — The Catawba Valley Community College softball program added another local name to its growing recruiting class on Wednesday, signing former East Burke standout Brittany Westbrooks.

"I'm very happy to be adding Brittany to our team here at Catawba Valley," said CVCC softball coach Josh Bumgarner. "She can play multiple positions, including pitching. She's a player that will contribute in many ways."

The former Cavaliers middle infielder and pitcher played in 63 career prep games, tallying a .220 career batting average in 191 at bats. She scored 22 runs, drove in 28 runs and recorded 42 hits.

On the mound, Westbrooks made 29 appearances, including 11 starts, with an 8-5 record and a 3.70 ERA. She struck out 49 batters and allowed 97 runs (only 63 were earned) in 119.1 innings pitched.

Behind her play, the Cavaliers won 42 games, including 27 conference contests.

Westbrooks also played volleyball at East Burke, including three of her four years at the varsity level, and she also played travel softball for the CV Storm.

CVCC officially starts its softball program this fall and will be immediately eligible for championship contention in the spring of 2020.
