HICKORY, N.C. — For the first time in three years, the Catawba Valley Community College women's basketball program finds themselves back in the NJCAA Div. II poll receiving votes.
The Red Hawks (9-2), who fell just short of the top 20, were one of six teams to receive votes in the latest Div. II poll, which was released by the NJCAA on Tuesday.
This marks the first time since Jan. 22, 2015 that the Catawba Valley women's basketball team has received votes in the Division II poll. In that 2015 poll, CVCC was ranked as the No. 17 team in the country.
CVCC is coming off a huge 69-64 region victory against then sixth-ranked Cape Fear on Dec. 19, 2017. By virtue of the loss, the Sea Devils dropped to No. 16 in the poll.
The CVCC women's basketball team returns to action for the first time in 2018 on Wednesday when it hosts Division I power Walters State at the Tarlton Complex. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m. Admission is free.
