Wildcat duo joining CVCC volleyball program

KING, N.C. — The Catawba Valley Community College volleyball program added to its 2018 incoming freshman class on Thursday by signing a pair of West Stokes High School standouts.

Outside hitter Rachel Delcamp and libero Abigail Gordon signed their National Letters of Intent with the Red Hawks volleyball program during a ceremony held at West Stokes High School.

"Rachel and Abigail bring experience and competitiveness to our fall 2018 roster," said CVCC head volleyball coach Shannon Hudson. "They have a unique bond having played sports — soccer, volleyball, softball and basketball — together since they were seven."

Delcamp tallied a team-best 392 kills (4.5 per set) during her senior season with the Wildcats. She also recorded 262 digs, 68 aces and 21 blocks in her final prep volleyball season.

A defensive stalwart, Gordon registered a team-high 317 digs this past season for the Wildcats. She also made 56 aces and 18 assists.

"Both players have tremendous ball control and aggressive serves," Hudson said. "Rachel will bring size and versatility to our outside hitting position, and Abigail's speed and consistent serve receive will be huge assets in our back court. I couldn't be more excited to have them joining our Red Hawks program."

Behind Delcamp and Gordon, the Wildcats finished their season 19-8 overall and 8-4 in Western Piedmont Athletic 2A conference play. West Stokes also reached the second round of the 2A playoffs.

Outside of their prep careers, Delcamp and Gordon both played club volleyball together for the Champion Volleyball Club under head coach Kevin Troup.

While at CVCC, Delcamp and Gordon both plan to pursue an Associate in Arts degree.
