Red Hawk volleyball adds Phillips, Myers

HICKORY, N.C. — The Catawba Valley Community College volleyball program has added two western North Carolina volleyball standouts for the 2018 season.

North Buncombe's Bre Myers and North Henderson's Zoe Phillips officially joined to the 2018 Red Hawks recruiting class on Wednesday after both of their respective schools held signing ceremonies.

Phillips, a senior middle hitter at North Henderson, tallied 145 kills, 48 blocks and 29 aces this past fall season. She added 262 digs defensively for the Knights, leading them to a 3A playoff appearance.

During her three seasons on the North Henderson volleyball team, Phillips was a part of 46 wins, including a 20-3 campaign during her junior season.

"Zoey has a composure and steadiness on the court that I really admire," said CVCC head volleyball coach Shannon Hudson. "She is consistent and smart with the ball and works hard to minimize unforced errors on offense. We are excited to add her to our roster for next fall."

A libero and defensive specialist, Myers was an all-conference volleyball player during the past two seasons at North Buncombe, leading the Blackhawks program to 27 wins and two playoff appearances during that time.

"Bre is a hard-working defender who reads the hitter very well," Hudson said. "I'm looking forward to having her ball control in serve receive and knowing that her competitive energy will make a huge impact on the court."

Phillips and Myers join a 2018 Red Hawk volleyball class that includes Alexander Central's Kelsea DeJarnette and Chesney Millsaps, Fred T. Foard's Jayln Rice, First Assembly Christian's Anna Clarke, St. Stephens' Madison Bolch, Watauga's Emma Clark, West Iredell's Macy Pope and West Stokes' Rachel Delcamp and Abigail Gordon.
