Red Hawks release their 2018 volleyball schedule

HICKORY, N.C. — The Catawba Valley volleyball program has released its fall 2018 schedule.

Shannon Hudson enters her 10th season as the head coach of the Red Hawks, who are chasing their seventh-straight Region X regular-season championship this season.

On the 2018 Catawba Valley volleyball schedule are 43 regular-season games and seven tournaments in six different states.

"I am so excited about our 2018 schedule," Hudson said. "It's a busy schedule, but I think playing great competition makes us a better program and prepares us for tournament play at the end of the year."

The Red Hawks will host a preseason scrimmage at the Tarlton Complex on Saturday, Aug. 18, facing off with Queens University, Winston-Salem State, Milligan and Catawba College.

Catawba Valley opens regular-season play on Tuesday, Aug. 28 in a home tri-match against Division I Walters State and region foe Spartanburg Methodist.

The Red Hawks will try to add to their 111-match winning streak in conference play starting Wednesday, Sept. 5 on the road against USC Salkehatchie. CVCC hasn't lost a conference match since Oct. 8, 2011 when it fell to Pitt Community College.

CVCC will once again face top tier competition on the court this fall, including D-II national runner-up Owens in its host tournament in Perrysburg, Ohio from Aug. 31 through Sept. 1.

Catawba Valley will also play in volleyball tournaments in New York (Monroe College Invitational), Alabama (Walters State Fall Bash) and Florida (Pasco-Hernando State College Bobcat Invitational).

"We will return to New York City, Alabama and Florida this year for some great Division I competition," Hudson said. "We will continue our five-year tradition of traveling to Owens Community College in Ohio for their Labor Day tournament, which always boasts numerous top 20 teams."

The newest addition to the Red Hawks' schedule is a visit to perennial D-II power Parkland College for the Cobras' Halloween Challenge tournament in Champaign, Ill on Oct. 26-27.

Also, for the fifth year in a row, Catawba Valley will host its Region X-travaganza, welcoming teams 12 teams from across the conference for a two-day tournament from Sept. 21-22.

"New to the schedule this fall is a trip to Parkland College for their Halloween Invitational," Hudson said. "We will also host several top teams from seven different states at our Catawba Valley Invitational, and we are looking forward to hosting our Region for the annual X-travaganza in September."
