HICKORY, N.C. — The Catawba Valley Community College volleyball program has altered this week's schedule due to the impending arrival of Hurricane Dorian.
The Red Hawks (4-1) were originally scheduled to travel to Allendale, S.C. to face off with conference opponent USC Salkehatchie on Wednesday before continuing their journey south and playing in the Pasco-Hernando Bobcat Invitational in New Port Richey, Fla. on Friday and Saturday.
However, the conference match against the Indians on Wednesday has been postponed and the two-day weekend tournament in Florida has been cancelled due to the hurricane.
"I hate that we are losing five games this week with cancellations because of Hurricane Dorian, but I completely understand the need to be extra cautious and plan for the worse," said CVCC head volleyball coach Shannon Hudson. "We are praying for the safety of all of our friends in harms way and are looking forward to returning to play next week."
Catawba Valley, which is ranked sixth in the NJCAA DII poll released on Tuesday, returns to the volleyball court on Friday, Sept. 13 and Saturday, Sept. 14 for the Monroe College Invitational in New Rochelle, N.Y.
