Women’s Basketball Game Highlights

CVCC vs. Wake Tech CC 2/25/12 CVCC (17-9, 6-6), finished up the season by winning a nail bitter, CVCC defeated Wake Tech 77-69 in triple overtime. The Lady Bucs were led by Matrice Sweezy who had 23 points, Vivian Adams followed with 18 points, and Shaliah Degree posted a double-double on the day with 12 points and 14 rebounds. The Lady Bucs will be back in action March 9th as they travel to Louisburg to play in the 1st round of the conference tournament.

2/18/12 CVCC vs. Louisburg College CVCC (16-9, 5-6) never got anything rolling against Louisburg College this afternoon, as they fell 50-86. The Lady Bucs were led by Brianna Mitchell who scored 12 points, Matrice Sweezy netted 11 points. The Lady Bucs will be back in action again next Saturday to wrap up the end of the regular season; tip time is set for 1:00pm.

2/16/12 CVCC vs. Patrick Henry CC CVCC (16-8, 5-5) ran into the #3 team in the nation in D-II JUCO last night and the score reflected it, 111-62. The Lady Bucs were never able to get anything rolling in the game, but they battled and played hard until the end. CVCC had four players reach double figures, Brianna Mitchell led the way with 15 points, Paige Moore netted 13 points, Matrice Sweezy and Vivian Adams each scored 11 points. The Lady Bucs will be back in action for their final home game of the season this Saturday against Louisburg College, tip time is set for 1:00 pm.

2/8/12 CVCC vs. Guilford Tech CC CVCC (16-7, 5-4) dropped their third straight tonight as they fell to Guilford Tech CC 68-63. The Lady Bucs were down big early, but managed to fight their way back and took the lead in the 2nd half, but crucial turnovers in the last minute of the game cost them big. Despite their loss, the Lady Bucs did have 4 players reach double figures. Paige Moore lead the way with 16 points, Brianna Mitchell and Vivian Adams both had 14 points, and Calrissa Hunt netted 11. The Lady Bucs will be back in action again on the road next Thursday night, tip time is set for 6:00 pm.

2/4/12 CVCC vs. Louisburg College CVCC (16-6, 6-3) were over matched tonight when they took on Louisburg College, final score was 89-62. The Lady Bucs were lead by freshman Vivian Adams who had 18 points, Brianna Mitchell scored 13 points, and Shaliah Degree netted 10 points. CVCC was short handed today, as they took on the Lady Hurricanes with only 7 players, but they gave a great effort and battled for 40 minutes. The Lady Bucs will be back in action Wednesday night as they travel to take on Guilford Tech CC; tip time is set for 6:00 pm.

1-28-12 CVCC vs. Lenoir CC CVCC (16-5, 4-2) let one slip through their fingers as they lost today’s contest against Lenoir CC, 62-53. It was evident that they Lady Bucs were missing the leadership and play of their point guard. CVCC was once again led by freshman Brianna Mitchell who scored 19 points in the game and was the only Lady Buccaneer to reach double figures in the game. The Lady Bucs will be back in action Saturday at Louisburg CC; game time is set for 1:00 pm.

1/21/12 CVCC vs. Brunswick CC CVCC (16-4, 4-1) were able to pick up another conference win today downing Brunswick CC 76-67. The Lady Bucs started off slow but they were able to finally get things rolling in the second half. CVCC was led by freshman Brianna Mitchell who had poured in 23 points tonight to go along with 10 rebounds. Sophomores Paige Moore and Clarissa Hunt each scored in double figures tonight, with Moore netting 15 and Hunt adding 14. The Lady Bucs will be back in action again Saturday at home when they take on Lenoir CC, game time is 2:00 pm.

1/19/12 CVCC vs. Patrick Henry CC CVCC (15-4, 4-1) suffered their first conference loss tonight falling 94-65. The Lady Bucs were up early in the game, but poor free throw shooting, turnovers, and a key player getting injured proved to be too much for CVCC to overcome tonight. The Lady Bucs were led by Matrice Sweezy with 18, Paige Moore scored 12, and Vivian Adams netted 11 points. CVCC will be back in action at home Saturday vs. Brunswick CC, game time is set for 1:00 pm.

1/14/12 CVCC vs. Brunswick CC CVCC (15-3, 4-0) pulled off another victory today against Brunswick CC 60-59. The Lady Bucs battled hard and pulled out a win, against a tough Brunswick team. The Lady Bucs were again paced by freshmen: Brianna Mitchell had 18 points in the contest, Matrice Sweezy had 13 points, and Vivian Adams with 11. CVCC will be back in action at home Thursday night against a tough conference opponent Patrick Henry; tip time is set for 5:00 pm.

1/11/12 CVCC vs. Guilford Tech CC CVCC (14-3, 3-0) stormed back in the 2nd half to beat a very talented Guilford Tech CC team, 62-59. The Lady Bucs went into the locker room down big, and continued to struggle in the opening of the 2nd half, but it finally clicked and they were able to knock off Guilford Tech. CVCC was lead by two freshmen, Matrice Sweezy with 17, and Vivian Adams with 14. Stephanie Cabral was huge on the defensive end of the floor, drawing 4 charges in the victory. The Lady Bucs will be back in action Saturday as they travel to Brunswick CC, tip time is set for 2:00 pm.

1/9/12 CVCC vs. Walters State CC CVCC (13-3,2-0) dropped their first game of the New Year tonight against Walters State CC 89-41. The Lady Bucs were just over powered in the post tonight, and did not have a good shooting night to add to the trouble. The Lady Bucs will be back in action Wednesday night at home against conference foes Guilford Tech CC, tip time is set for 5:00 pm.

1/7/12 CVCC vs Wake Tech CC CVCC (13-2, 2-0) got off to a great start this afternoon in their 71-54 victory over Wake Tech CC. The Lady Bucs      raced to an early lead, but then got in foul trouble and saw that lead slip away as they went into the locker room trailing by one, but they were able to overcome the deficit in the 2nd half and run away with the game. The Lady Bucs were lead by standout freshman Brianna Mitchell who recorded another double-double, with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Three other Buccaneers reached double figures, Paige Moore with 11 points, Samiya Pitts with 10 points, and Matrice Sweezy with 10 Points. CVCC is back in action Monday night at they are on the road to take on Walters State at 6:00 pm.

12/10/11   CVCC vs Montreat College JV CVCC (12-2,1-0) suffered their second loss of the season tonight against Montreat College JV team 73-65. The Lady Bucs never could seem to keep the momentum rolling, it seemed like every time something would go their way, Montreat would counter them with a play even better. CVCC’s defense wasn’t able to find Montreat’s key players. The Lady Bucs were led by, Clarissa Hunt who netted 19 points, Stephanie Cabral scored 17 points and Brianna Mitchell had 10 points on the night. CVCC will not be back in action until January.

12/9/11 Bus vs Caldwell CVCC (12-1, 1-0) stormed past the Caldwell Lady Cobras tonight 75-53. The Lady Bucs
again went to their stifling zone defense and shut Caldwell Community down
offensively tonight. CVCC was lead by Sophomore Paige Moore who had 13 points
on the night, Matrice Sweezy who netted 14 points, and Freshman Brianna
Mitchell had an outstanding performance tonight scoring 16 points on the night
and grabbing a career high 19 rebounds. The Lady Bucs will be back in action
tomorrow on the road against Montreat College’s JV team, tip time is 5:00
pm.

12/6/11  Lady Bucs vs Caldwell CC & TI CVCC (11-1,1-0), had another good showing Tuesday as they played on the road at cross county rivals Caldwell Community College. The Lady Bucs defeated the Lady Cobras 73-54, and shot 48% from the floor tonight and put up another strong defensive effort. CVCC was led by two freshmen who are coming off of double-double performances on Sunday; Brianna Mitchell had a career high 24 points tonight, Matrice Sweezy had 15 points on the night. The Lady Bucs will be back in action again Friday night at home against Caldwell Community College, tip time is 5:00 pm.

12/4/11 Lady Bucs vs Mt. Olive JV CVCC (10-1, 1-0) defeated Mount Olive College JV team 73-63 Sunday afternoon. The Lady Bucs struggled in the 1st half as they went into the locker room down by 2 points, but they caught fire in the 2nd half. CVCC shot 53% in the 2nd half to pull out a 10
point win. The Lady Bucs had 3 players scoring in double figures, Clarissa Hunt, Brianna Mitchell, and Matrice Sweezy all netting 15 each. Brianna
Mitchell had 10 rebounds and Matrice Sweezy had 10 steals thus becoming to first players to tally a double double on the season for the Lady Bucs. CVCC is back in action Tuesday night at home against Caldwell Community College at 5:00 pm.

12/1/11 Lady Bucs vs Tri-County CC The Lady Bucs charged into South Carolina tonight and stole the show from Tri-County Community College 65-37. CVCC (9-1,1-0), was
led by Sophomore guard Clarissa Hunt as she was the only player to score in double figures netting 10 points. The Lady Bucs got a strong contribution from
every member of the team tonight as every player on the roster saw action in tonight’s contest. Coach Edwards said, “Despite poor decisions and a low
shooting percentage we survived.” CVCC has held their opponents in the past 2 games to 37 points; this will improve the Lady Bucs already nationally ranked defense. CVCC is back in action on Sunday at 2:00 at Mount Olive College.

11/30/11 Lady Bucs vs Clinton

The Lady Bucs keep rolling through the first half of their season, CVCC is (8-1, 1-0) after tonight’s win over Clinton Junior College 48-37. The Lady Bucs shot well from the floor, but they didn’t get many opportunities as they had committed 27 turnovers and had several offensive fouls called on them. CVCC was lead by Freshman Matrice
Sweezy who had 13 points and 6 steals on the night; Paige Moore was close to a double-double tonight as she had 9 points and 10 rebounds. The Lady Bucs will be back in action again on the road on Thursday night taking on Tri-Country Community College @ 6:00 pm.

11/28/11 Lady Bucs vs Milligan

The Lady Bucs keep on winning, as they went to Tennessee to play the Milligan College JV team defeating the Lady Buffalos 67-54. CVCC had three players scoring in double figures on the night. Sophomore Paige Moore had 12 for the Buccaneers, Samiya Pitts had 11 points on the night, and Stephanie Cabral netted 12 points and paced the Lady Bucs on the boards with 9 rebounds. The
Lady Bucs look to keep on the winning track as they play tomorrow night at home against Clinton Community College at 7:00 pm.

11/17/11  Lady Bucs Keep Rolling

The Lady Bucs keep on winning as they downed Montreat College JV 65-55. CVCC    (5-1, 1-0) was in control of the game and
were up 20 at one point in the 2nd half, But Montreat fought their
way back into the game to make it close down to the wire. The Buccaneers were
led by Sophomore Nicole Gentry who had 16, and Vivian Adams scored 14 points.
The Lady Bucs shot 83% from the free throw line which sealed the game for CVCC.
The Lady Bucs are back in action Tuesday at 5 pm at CVCC.

Lady Bucs Win in Overtime 11/13/11

The Lady Bucs pulled out a thriller on Sunday afternoon at Lenoir Community College defeating the Lancers 78-73 in overtime. CVCC (4-1, 1-0) started out the game shooting well, but it was evident that they were in for a battle. The Lady Bucs were only up 2 points going into halftime and then as the final horn ended it was all knotted at 67. The Lady Bucs scored 11 points in the extra period while holding Lenoir Community College to 6 points. The Buccaneers were once again lead by Sophomore Paige Moore who scored 19 for CVCC; Brianna Mitchell came off the bench and netted 13 points for the Lady Bucs. CVCC is back in action Thursday at home against Montreat College at 6:00 pm.

11/10/2011 CVCC vs Milligan College JVOn Thursday night, the Bucs got out to a quick lead over Milligan and by half time never looked back. The Lady Bucs defeated the Milligan JV team 91-58 having 4 players score in double digits: sophomore standout Paige Moore who poured in 18 points, Brianna Mitchell, Nicole Gentry and Olivia Sabo netting 14 points each. CVCC shot 51% from the floor which was a drastic improvement from their last outing against Walters State. The Lady Bucs are back in action on Sunday afternoon as they travel to Kinston, NC to take on Lenoir Community College at 2:00 PM.
