Volleyball Team Highlights
The CVCC Lady Buccaneers traveled to Montreat College on Tuesday, August 30th for their season opener.
The Bucs came out strong in the first set against the Cavaliers JV squad winning 25-17. Consistent serving was key in the first set. Carolyn Houser led the way with 5 aces. Megan Clark had six kills in the first game. Defensively, Ashley Costner and Lacy Goodson led with 3 digs each. Breckin Settlemyer contributed with a solo block and a block assist.
In the second set of the match, CVCC kept the momentum, winning 25-17. Cortney Rogers ran the offense with 4 kills, and Lacy Goodson added 3. The block game was on with 6 block assists for the set. Jodi Henkel led the defense with 8 digs. Megan Clark had 5 and Lacy Goodson added 4 more.
The Lady Buccaneers finished the match 25-13. Lacy Goodson baffled the Cavalier defense and posted 5 kills in the last set of the match. Cortney Rogers led the defense with 4 digs. Megan Clark added 3 digs.
Overall, Megan Clark led in kills for the match with 10. Lacy Goodson added 9 kills. Carolyn Houser carried the team in the assists category. Jodi Henkel dominated the defensive game with 11 digs. Cortney Rogers and Megan Clark each had 8 digs.
CVCC vs. Rockingham Community College September 1, 2011
The Lady Buccaneers of Catawba Valley took on the Eagles of Rockingham Community College in their home game season opener Thursday night, September 1, 2011. The Bucs dominated the match winning 25-5, 25–4 and 25-5.
Powerful serving shut down the Eagles offense. Megan Clark and Jodi Henkel both had 8 aces for the match. Cortney Rogers and Megan Clark led the offensive game with 6 kills each and Breckin Settlemyer added 5 kills. Carolyn Houser posted 9 assists and Lacy Goodson had 8 assists.
CVCC’s Region X Conference Record is 1-0 and their overall record is 2-0.
Volleyball “Kids Night” which was held during the match was a hit! The kids won prizes by participating in the intermission games and earned coins and a trip to the “treasure chest” as they rotated through activity stations during the event. The next “Kids Night” is planned for Thursday, September 29th at 4:00. Come enjoy an evening of family fun and support your CVCC Lady Bucs!
All High School and Club coaches and their players are invited to attend this year’s CVCC Volleyball “Team Day” on Saturday, September 3rd. CVCC hosts Davidson County Community College and Toccoa Falls College for a tri-match beginning at 11:00. Special events are planned for pre-game and intermission.

CVCC vs Davidson CCC September 3, 2011
On Saturday, September 03, 2011, CVCC hosted Davidson County Community College for the first game of the tri-match.
The Lady Bucs started off slow in the first game and fell 20-25. Megan Clark had 4 kills, but it was not enough against the scrappy defense of the Davidson Storm. Jodi Henkel had 7 digs in the first game.
In the second set, consistent serving and aggressive hitting helped gain the victory for the Buccaneers who won 25-14. Megan Clark had 3 aces and Cortney Rogers added 1 more. Kailey Russell had 2 kills, Breckin Settlemyer, Cortney Rogers and Megan Clark each added 1kill. Kailey Russell and Ashley Costner both had a block solo and a block assist for the set.
In the third set, the Bucs came out strong, but lost momentum towards the end of the game and lost 23-25. Lacy Goodson and Megan Clark posted 4 kills each. Jodi Henkel led the defense with 9 digs. Lacy Goodson added 5 digs. Cortney Rogers and Megan Clark also had 4 digs each. Carolyn Houser had 5 assists for the game.
CVCC regained focus in the fourth game, winning 25-12. Kailey Russell controlled the serving game with 3 aces for the set. Breckin Settlemyer and Cortney Rogers each posted 4 kills. Kasey Parker worked hard on defense and dug up 7 balls. Cortney Rogers and Carolyn Houser added 6 digs each. Carolyn Houser ran the offense with 6 assists.
The Bucs finished it off in the final game winning 15-9. Carolyn Houser and Cortney Rogers each had an ace for the game. Breckin Settlemyer and Megan Clark had 3 kills each.
Leading the offensive for the match was Megan Clark who had 13 kills. Breckin Settlemyer contributed 10 for the match. Jodi Henkel ran the defense with 28 digs. Cortney Rogers added 15 digs and Kasey Parker had 14. Carolyn Houser ended the match with 18 assists and Lacy Goodson had 11.
CVCC vs. Toccoa Falls College Sept. 3, 2011
The Catawba Valley Lady Buccaneers took on the Eagles of Toccoa Falls for the final match of the day. CVCC started off strong winning the first set 25-17. Leading the offensive game was Megan Clark with 8 kills. Jodi Henkel had 9 digs.
The Eagles of Toccoa Falls battled back in the second game to pull off a 25-23 victory. Breckin Settlemyer had 5 kills in the second set and Cortney Rogers added 3. Jodi Henkel and Carolyn Houser contributed to the defensive game with 5 digs each.
In the third set of the match, CVCC came back strong winning 25-22. Cortney Rogers and Megan Clark shared kills with 3 each. Lacy Goodson and Carolyn Houser posted 3 assists each. Carolyn Houser also led in the dig category with 5.
Inconsistency plagued the Buccaneer’s offense and they fell to the Eagles in the fourth set 20-25. Kailey Russell led the offense with 4 kills. Cortney Rogers added 3. Kasey Parker posted 5 digs for the set.
The final set of the match was a tough fought battle, but the Eagles of Toccoa Falls came out on top, winning 15-13. Breckin Settlemyer had 3 kills for the game and Megan Clark had 2. Lacy Goodson led in the assists category with 4. Cortney Rogers and Jodi Henkel shared digs with 4 each.
Overall, Megan Clark finished the match with 15 kills total. Breckin Settlemyer and Cortney Rogers each had 12 kills. Kailey Russell and Megan Clark each had 1 block solo and the team had 6 block assists for the match. Lacy Goodson led in the assists category with 20 for the match and Carolyn Houser added 14. Defensively, Jodi Henkel led with 23 digs. Carolyn Houser added 12 digs.
CVCC’s Region X Conference Record is 1-0 and their overall record is 3-1.
CVCC travels to the College of Southern Maryland for a Region X vs. Region XX Challenge Tournament September 9th and 10th. The Bucs host Guilford Tech for their next home match on September 20th at 6:00.
9/15/11 CVCC vs Surry Community College
The Lady Buccaneers of Catawba Valley Community College traveled to Surry Community College on Thursday, September 15, 2011, for a 6:00 match. The Bucs started off sluggish and lost the first set 25-16. CVCC battled back in the second game, but fell short 26-24. The Surry Knights finished off the Lady Bucs in the third set with a final score of 25-14.
Breckin Settlemyer ran the offensive game with 9 kills, Kailey Russell added 7 and Carolyn Houser posted 12 assists. Jodi Henkel and Megan Clark dug up 9 and 8 balls respectively.
On Friday, September 16th, CVCC hosts Cape Fear Community College at 6:00 before taking a trip Saturday to Wake Tech Community College for a tri-match vs. Wake Tech and Johnston Community College at 12:00 and 2:00.

In the dig category, Carolyn Houser led the way with 5 digs. Jodi Henkel and Lacy Goodson each had 4. Rachel Harp and Cortney Rogers added 3 digs a piece.

In set four, CVCC came out aggressive, winning 25-18. Carolyn Houser led once again in the aces category with 3. Cortney Rogers led the offense with 4 kills. Jodi Henkel and Kasey Parker had 7 and 4 digs respectively.
15-6 was the score in the Bucs dominated final set. Intensity was high and Megan Clark led the way with 4 kills. Kailey Russell added 2 kills. Lacy Goodson posted 4 assists and Carolyn Houser had 3. Jodi Henkel had an impressive 9 digs in the final set.
Overall, Carolyn Houser led in the serve category with 7 aces for the match, and Kailey Russell added 3. Offensively, Megan Clark dominated with 13 kills. Breckin Settlemyer had 9 kills, and Cortney Rogers and Lacy Goodson each had 8. In the blocking category, Megan Clark had 3 block assists and Kailey Russell and Breckin Settlemyer had 2 each. CVCC came out strong winning the first set 25-13, and never looked back. The Bucs continued to dominate winning the second set 25-13 and final set 25-15. Standouts from the match were Megan Clark with 9 kills, followed by Breckin Settlemyer with 6 kills and Kailey Russell with 5 kills. Carolyn Houser and Lacy Goodson shared assists with 11 each. Leading the defense and the serving game was Jodi Henkel with 23 digs for the match and 3 serving aces.
CVCC host an exciting quad-match on Saturday, October 1, 2011, beginning at 10:00 a.m. when the Bucs take on Brunswick Community College. The 12:00 p.m. match features Brunswick Community College versus Surry Community College followed by CVCC versus Surry Community College at 2:00 p.m. CVCC rounds out the day playing a non-conference match against Spartanburg Methodist College at 4:00 p.m.
The Lady Buccaneers will be kicking off their “Dig Pink” campaign on Saturday, October 1, 2011. Special recognition will be given to breast cancer survivors during the 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. matches. Other special events are planned for the day. Come out and support your Lady Buccaneer Volleyball Team as they raise awareness and help support the fight against breast cancer.

CVCC came out strong winning the first set 25-13, and never looked back. The Bucs continued to dominate winning the second set 25-13 and final set 25-15. Standouts from the match were Megan Clark with 9 kills, followed by Breckin Settlemyer with 6 kills and Kailey Russell with 5 kills. Carolyn Houser and Lacy Goodson shared assists with 11 each. Leading the defense and the serving game was Jodi Henkel with 23 digs for the match and 3 serving aces.
CVCC host an exciting quad-match on Saturday, October 1, 2011, beginning at 10:00 a.m. when the Bucs take on Brunswick Community College. The 12:00 p.m. match features Brunswick Community College versus Surry Community College followed by CVCC versus Surry Community College at 2:00 p.m. CVCC rounds out the day playing a non-conference match against Spartanburg Methodist College at 4:00 p.m.
The Lady Buccaneers will be kicking off their “Dig Pink” campaign on Saturday, October 1, 2011. Special recognition will be given to breast cancer survivors during the 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. matches. Other special events are planned for the day. In the first game against the Lady Bulldogs of Pitt Community College, the Bucs dropped the first set 19-25. CVCC came out strong and won the next set 25-21 before losing the third set 16-25. The Bucs fought back, but lost a close fourth set 23-25.
Megan Clark led the offense with 15 kills and Breckin Settlemyer added 11. Jodi Henkel posted 24 digs and Megan Clark and Lacy Goodson added 17 and 13 respectively. Lacy Goodson and Carolyn Houser shared assists with 16 each. Megan Clark had an amazing 5 aces for the match.

CVCC came out strong winning the first set 25-13, and never looked back. The Bucs continued to dominate winning the second set 25-13 and final set 25-15. Standouts from the match were Megan Clark with 9 kills, followed by Breckin Settlemyer with 6 kills and Kailey Russell with 5 kills. Carolyn Houser and Lacy Goodson shared assists with 11 each. Leading the defense and the serving game was Jodi Henkel with 23 digs for the match and 3 serving aces.
CVCC host an exciting quad-match on Saturday, October 1, 2011, beginning at 10:00 a.m. when the Bucs take on Brunswick Community College. The 12:00 p.m. match features Brunswick Community College versus Surry Community College followed by CVCC versus Surry Community College at 2:00 p.m. CVCC rounds out the day playing a non-conference match against Spartanburg Methodist College at 4:00 p.m.

In the first game against the Lady Bulldogs of Pitt Community College, the Bucs dropped the first set 19-25. CVCC came out strong and won the next set 25-21 before losing the third set 16-25. The Bucs fought back, but lost a close fourth set 23-25.
Megan Clark led the offense with 15 kills and Breckin Settlemyer added 11. Jodi Henkel posted 24 digs and Megan Clark and Lacy Goodson added 17 and 13 respectively. Lacy Goodson and Carolyn Houser shared assists with 16 each. Megan Clark had an amazing 5 aces for the match.

CVCC won a close first set against the Louisburg Hurricanes, 27-25. The Bucs lost an early lead in the second set and fell 28-30. In the third set, CVCC regained control and won 25-18. The Lady Hurricanes battled back in the final set, but the Bucs refused to lose, overcoming a two-point deficit on game point to win 26-24.
