No. 8 Red Hawks take weekend baseball series at Louisburg

LOUISBURG, N.C. — The eighth-ranked Catawba Valley Community College baseball team claimed a hard‑fought conference series at Louisburg College on Saturday and Sunday, winning two of three games.

The Red Hawks improve to 17-11 overall and 10-2 in Region 10 play.

Louisburg 9, No. 8 CVCC 1 (Game 1 - Saturday)

Despite out‑hitting the Hurricanes 8-15, the Red Hawks dropped the series opener against the Hurricanes.

Brody Taylor drove in CVCC's lone run in the fourth inning, scoring Sylas Mills. Mills also added a stolen base, while Pierce Bouwman and Alex Robinson contributed to the Red Hawks' eight‑hit effort.

CVCC pitchers Cole Bowie and Chase Arrington combined for 7.2 innings, with Arrington striking out five in relief.

No. 8 CVCC 9, Louisburg 3 (Game 2 - Saturday)

The Red Hawks responded emphatically in the nightcap on Saturday, erupting for nine runs and evening the series behind a dominant offensive showing.

Pierce Bouwman set the tone immediately with a first‑inning solo home run, and Jacob Krebs delivered the game's biggest swing — a three‑run blast in the fourth that put CVCC firmly in control.

Brady Byler added three runs, two hits and an RBI for Catawba Valley, while Alex Robinson doubled home another run in the sixth.

On the mound, Red Hawk pitcher Lane Essary struck out nine over 4.2 innings, and Drew Bryant closed the door with three more strikeouts to secure the win.

No. 8 CVCC 15, Louisburg 12 (Game 3 - Sunday)

In a wild, high‑scoring finale, the Red Hawks completed the series victory with a relentless offensive attack, scoring 11 runs across the final three innings.

Brody Taylor launched a pivotal seventh‑inning grand slam — part of a five‑run frame that pulled CVCC back within striking distance. Josh Meadows followed with a solo homer, and the Red Hawks continued to surge late.

Pierce Bouwman added a two‑run homer in the eighth for Catawba Valley, and Isaiah McDowell delivered the go‑ahead RBI single in the ninth. Jacob Krebs and Alex Robinson each drove in additional insurance runs.

CVCC finished with 15 hits, including multi‑hit games from Bouwman, Robinson, Mills, Meadows and McDowell.

The Catawba Valley Community College baseball team returns to action on Tuesday for a road contest at Pellissippi State. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. in Knoxville, Tenn.
