HICKORY, N.C. — The Catawba Valley Community College men's basketball battled its way to a 100-95 overtime victory against Davidson-Davie on Wednesday night at the Tarlton Complex.
With the win, the Red Hawks improve to 5-4 overall and 3-0 in Region 10 play.
The victory for Catawba Valley, which snaps a 13-game losing stream to the Storm, is its first against Davidson-Davie since Dec. 13, 2020 when the Red Hawks also won at home in overtime, 93-91.
Tjay Mills led the Red Hawks in the victory with a career-high 22 points. Caden Caskey also recorded his career high in scoring with 21 points, and KJ Burke added 17 points.
CVCC took a 44-37 lead at halftime paced by Caskey's nine points and eight points from Mills.
Davidson-Davie (3-4, 2-3) fought back in the second half to tie the game after regulation, including a pivotal four-point play by Storm guard Dane Stewart with 34.6 seconds remaining in the second half.
During the extra session, Burke scored eight points, and the Red Hawks outscored the Storm 12-7 to come away with the pivotal home conference victory.
The Catawba Valley Community College men's basketball returns to action on Wednesday for a road conference contest at Southwest Virginia. Tip off in Cedar Bluff, Va. is set for 6 p.m.
