Robinson’s late three lifts Red Hawks past Flyers

HICKORY, N.C. — A three-pointer by Levi Robinson with 4.6 seconds left lifted the Catawba Valley Community College men's basketball team to a thrilling 94-93 victory against Sandhills Community College on Friday night at the Tarlton Complex.

The win by the Red Hawks (6-7) avenges a 101-99 buzzer-beater loss to the Flyers on the road on Nov. 12.

TJay Mills paced Catawba Valley in the victory with a career-high 31 points, while Robinson scored all 16 of his season-high in points during the second half. Josh Moore (12 points) and Joseph Durant (10) also reached double figures in scoring for CVCC.

Trailing by as many as 13 points in the contest, the Red Hawks used a 27-13 run to take a 76-75 lead with 7:52 to go in Friday's non-league game on four-straight technical foul free throws by Robinson.

Sandhills would fight back and take a 92-86 lead with 1:03 left in the game, but the Red Hawks capitalized on a three-point play from Mills, a lay up by forward Moore and Robinson's late three to complete the comeback and earn their sixth win of the winter.

The Catawba Valley Community College men's basketball team finishes the 2025 calendar year with a home conference contest against Fayetteville Tech on Saturday. Tip off is set for 3 p.m. at the Tarlton Complex.
