STATESVILLE, N.C. — The Catawba Valley Community College volleyball program added a local name to its 2019 recruiting class this week with the signing of Statesville High School standout Aasia McNeill.

"We are so excited to welcome Aasia to our Red Hawks family and are looking forward to her immediate contributions on the court," said CVCC volleyball head coach Shannon Hudson. "Aasia adds quickness, athleticism and versatility to an experienced hitter lineup for this year's roster. She is a complete volleyball player who can play all six rotations as an exceptional passer and a dynamic force at the net. I admire her passion for the game and can't wait to see what this season holds." 

The senior outside hitter and defensive specialist for the Greyhounds played in 107 sets this past fall, recording 312 kills, 48 aces, 30 blocks, 382 digs and 16 assists.

Behind her performance, Statesville High won 11 volleyball matches on the court and made an appearance in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) 3A state playoffs.

McNeill was drawn to the Red Hawks volleyball program because of its sustained success, including its seven-straight Region championships and recent ninth-place national finish.

"It is extremely underrated," McNeill said of the CVCC volleyball program. "There has been so much success that has come out of it, and I have heard so many great things about the program. I knew a lot of girls that had been a part of it, and they all had nothing but good things to say about it.

"It will definitely be a different experience, and I'm sure it will be a lot more challenging but I am ready to give it all that I got," she added. "Being able to continue my volleyball career is extremely exciting, especially because I know that the girls that I will be with are a great group of girls."
