HICKORY, N.C. — The Catawba Valley Community College volleyball program announces the signings of Lilly Weaver and Amber Barker to its 2019 recruiting class.
Weaver, a 5-foot-8 outside hitter, recorded a team-high 33 kills this past season at South Stokes High School. She added 32 aces, 11 blocks and 416 digs, helping lead the Sauras to a 19-8 overall record and a 1A playoff appearance.
"Lily is a smart and seasoned hitter who will add depth to our fall roster at that position," said CVCC head volleyball coach Shannon Hudson. "Lily is a competitor and a smart player who sees the court well. I'm excited to see how she continues to develop as a player this season."
Weaver is also a four-time all-conference selection in the Northwest 1A and Western Piedmont 2A conferences, and she was named an all-conference tournament performer as a senior this past fall.
"Lilly is one of the most dedicated volleyball players I have coached," said South Stokes head volleyball coach Jayson Duncan. "She leads with actions and words. Her hard work made South volleyball better while she was here and in the future. We have players that look up to her work ethic and positive attitude. She will be a great asset to the CVCC volleyball program and the school community."
Barker comes to CVCC from the Greater Cabarrus Stallions, where she helped lead the program to a 47-11 overall record in her three seasons, including a 15-5 mark this past fall season.
"Amber brings athleticism and a nice vertical to an already talented front row for our team this fall," Hudson said. "Amber's versatility as a setter and hitter make her an invaluable asset and I'm looking forward to watching her grow her game in our offense."
A setter and right side, Baker helped lead the Stallions to three top-three finishes in the state, including first place as a sophomore in 2016, third place as a junior in 2017 and second place as a senior in 2018.
"The first time she stepped onto the court, I knew she was going to be a great player," said Stallions head volleyball coach Lee Dupre. "Amber is an all-around player and a great teammate that leads by example. She works hard to master the game of volleyball, which allows her to excel in any position she plays."
Weaver and Baker join a Red Hawks volleyball team that is coming off a tremendous 2019 season in which they finished 36-10 overall and reached the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DII tournament, winning three matches at nationals for the first time in program history.
