Daniel Brinegar enters his first year as a student assistant coach at Catawba Valley Community College in 2018.

Brinegar started the 2018 season on the Red Hawks baseball roster as a redshirt sophomore catcher and outfielder, but after a suffering a season-ending injury just five games through the regular season, he assumed the position of student assistant coach.

The son of Richard and Ava Brinegar, Daniel played in 31 games for the Red Hawks in 2017, including 17 conference contests. He carried a .370 average with three home runs, 14 RBI, 24 runs scored and six stolen bases for CVCC.

Entering the 2018 season, Brinegar was voted by his teammates as one of four captains for the Red Hawks.

A standout at Elkin High School, Daniel was as 9-2 on the mound with a 1.52 ERA during his senior season with the Elks. He also held a 0.500 batting average and 0.582 on-base percentage at Elkin High while playing for head coach Nick Tomlin. Daniel helped lead the Elks to a 17-9 record during his final season.

Daniel will continue his athletic and academic career at UNC Greensboro beginning in the fall of 2018.
